1. MONNA INNOMINATA full text

Writing Sample #1 Description: I created original text for my miniature opera/song cycle called “Monna Innominata.” The text was inspired by and adapted from several poems by Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) and a contemporary poem called “Dear Reader” by Alessandra Lynch.

2. Five Poems

Writing Sample #2 Description: Five original poems that I have written over the past few years. A few of them have appeared in my compositions. As a composer, this is the first time I’ve submitted a writing sample, but I think these poems are a good representation of my style and how I hope to develop as a writer and lyricist/librettist of my own compositions.

The final poem "Permission” evolved into the text of my first music sample (from Hymnal, above)
